Service: Charles enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant June 26, 1861 at the age of 30. He received a Commission in Company H, 12th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts

on June 26, 1861. He was then Promoted to Full Captain on August 10, 1862.  He was captured at the North Anna River, Virginia May 24, 1864.  He was 

released on March 1, 1865 at Wilmington, North Carolina.  Charles was discharged Company H, 12th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts on March 12, 1865. 

He applied for an Invalid Pension July 10, 1907 [Pension Application # 1365728; Certificate # 1139851 - C2479970].
